Haiti

Like most of the people in the rest of the world, I’m devastated by the aftermath to our human race that the tragic earthquake in Haiti has wrought.  I was watching Anderson Cooper on CNN last night as he was talking with Sanjay Gupta about the night Sanjay had spent after operating on a 12-year old [...]

Who is going to buy our way out of this economic disaster?

The California budget and economy is falling apart. 21,000 state employees are getting layoff notices in about a minute.  Those remaining will be forced to take 2 day furloughs per month — but at least they’ll still have their work.  The federal stimulus package was just signed by Obama, so over time, some lost ground will [...]

No stranger to nationalization

Globally, many countries are having to take stake in life-blood companies — in the US, banks like Bank of America, Citibank; in the auto industry, Chrysler and GM — and, well, you’ve read the news.  The more money that gets infused into the failing businesses, the  more nationalization will be taking place.  As an ex-pat [...]

The hurt keeps on coming.  This morning Microsoft announced their 2nd quarter results and with the global economy still limping along, put plans in place to lay off 5,000 staff over the next 18 months, included 1400 who got their pink slips today.

Too much to say and not enough time…

Apparently, along with many of you, I’ve got a heck of a lot on my mind lately.  There are so many things I want to share — reviews of new movies coming up (a little bit of escapism never hurt anyone), much,  much more on the auto industry, perspective on the economy, new technologies — but [...]

Looking for love in 2009? What about a nice 107 year old gal?

“Woman, 107, seeks spouse”
A Chinese woman who never married is looking for a husband so she won’t be a burden on her elderly nephews and nieces.  If you’ve ever wondered about love after mid-life, this article in the Globe and Mail will make for some good bedtime reading.

Where is YOUR money going…or coming from?

I read Ronni Bennet’s post today with great interest:  http://www.timegoesby.net/weblog/2008/12/the-real-economic-story.html  Like many of us, she wonders what it happening to the many, many middle class, working poor, and poor who have been hit (and will continue to be hit) hardest by the economic meltdown.  On my group at Eons, I ask the question, how has [...]

September 11, 2008

On September 11, 2001, my daughter was 18 months old. I lived 35 miles from my place of work, which in Los Angeles translated to a 1 – 1 1/2 hour commute each way, each day. I had to pass Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) each day on the way to and from [...]
