I'm one of those people who is sickeningly optimistic at times and you are quite right in calling me on it! My opinion is shaped by having just come from the auto show and getting an insider's view of the potential of green technologies, and I have to admit that I did emerge somewhat more hopeful about the next decade, than even a couple of weeks ago. Why? Green technology.

The potential of green technology just in the auto industry can generate and create up to 900,000 new jobs just on the shoring up of infrastructure and the research on hydrogen fuel cells combined with electric propulsion models leads the way to an increasing number of alternatives to our very limited fuel sources. I don't think, for a second, that Obama has an easy road ahead, but in this case, at this time, I believe the American people, will rise to the challenge and bring their ingenuity to the table...far ahead of the ability of government to react or legislate.

We have a financial crisis of epic proportion, but we also have the ability to innovate and I'm going to put the little money I have left on the side of innovation.

I admire your optimism and hope you are correct about the future. Just keep in mind that Obama still has to deal with a Congress full of folks who place getting re-elected above all else. So to that extent, I have to think of "Won't Get Fooled Again" by the Who, with the line "meet the new boss, same as the old boss."
